Every month, Peterborough musicians are releasing new, exciting, and fantastic music – new singles, new albums, new videos, new digital downloads, and more. “New And Local” is our new monthly column to celebrate and promote all the wonderful music released in the past month in our little town. June 2012 brought us new albums by Martignetti and Rep By Pop, the first release from the new local label HyperNation Records, and new tracks from even more artists.

And hey, are you a local musician? We do one of these at the end of every month, so if you have any new releases coming up in July 2012, let us know!! And if we missed something this month, let us know that, too!
Ben Rough
A fixture of the local music scene, singer-songwriter Ben Rough is getting ready to release the album New Names For Old Flames, his first release in several years. The album won’t be out til later this summer, but for now, he’s released three tracks to Bandcamp: “Concrete River,” “I Never Believed That Anyway,” and the title track, “New Names For Old Flames.”
Bloody Boy Blue
A bit of a departure from his normal stuff, Pontypool electro artist Bloody Boy Blue’s new track, “Into The Unknown,” is a bit more traditional and a bit more melodic than some of his stuff, and it’s also instrumental. Check it out on Soundcloud.
C.L. McEachern
Local singer-songwriter CL McEachern is always writing, always performing somewhere in town, and always recording new tracks in his home recording studio. This month, he released 3 tracks: “Waiting,” “Gunshot Words,” and a polished version of his Joe Strummer cover, “Coma Girl.” All 3 songs (and way more) are available to stream and download on CL’s Soundcloud.
Hypernation Records
A new label in town created by locals Brendan Daw (StatiK) and Danny Taro, HyperNation Records focuses on Peterborough’s dance and electro artists. This month, in addition to releasing Martignetti’s first album (see below), they published the first episode of HyperNation Radio, a half-hour podcast/radio show/mega-mix including music by local artists StatiK, Taro, and Martignetti. The whole thing is available to stream or download on Soundcloud.
Martignetti
Local DJ and electro artist Martignetti just released a new EP, And Then It Did. It’s available for free download on Bandcamp and Soundcloud, and if you want to support the artist, Bandcamp also has a pay-what-you-want option. Also, the album’s title track, “And Then It Did,” has a dubstep remix by StatiK and which is also available as a pay-what-you-want on Bandcamp.
Nick Ferrio & His Feelings
This September, local country band Nick Ferrio & His Feelings will be releasing a new album on Shuffling Feet Records (same label as Jos Fortin and Evening Hymns). Earlier this month, as a teaser, they released the song “Popular Flower” to stream on Soundcloud.
Rep By Pop
Technically, local rock band Rep By Pop’s EP, Harper=Nixon, was first released digitally a few months ago, but they just pressed new copies and held a CD release at the Montreal House with Loon Choir and Mango Album. Also, it’s a great album – really catchy, upbeat, anti-Harper… what’s not to love? The whole album is available to stream/purchase on Bandcamp, and the song ”Distractions Part II” is available for free download, too.
Superquest
And local band Superquest, who play music heavily influenced by Motley Crue and other 80s hard rock acts, brought out a new song this month – a song about on appropriately 80s-hard-rock type topic, “One Night Stand.” It’s available to stream on ReverbNation.
